PollinateHV Receives a $247,000 Grant from the New York Pollinator Conservation Fund
Funds will support pollinator habitat on public lands and working farms, expand PollinateHV’s educational offerings
Partners for Climate Action (PCA) is thrilled to announce it is a 2025 recipient of a $247,000 grant from the New York Pollinator Conservation Fund, administered by the New York Community Trust. The funding will advance PCA’s work in supporting at-risk pollinator populations throughout the Hudson Valley, specifically on working farms and residential landscapes, as part of the PollinateHV initiative.
PollinateHV, launched in 2024, provides a robust library of free online resources to help Hudson Valley land stewards at all scales create habitat for threatened native pollinators. Through this funding, PollinateHV will further support the needs of working farmers and small-scale gardeners through new partnerships, habitat restoration projects, and educational opportunities. Notably, the grant will create at least five acres of at-risk pollinator habitat, ten demonstration gardens, and five 150-foot hedgerows of native trees and shrubs.
“This level of funding allows us not only to expand the reach and impact of PollinateHV, but also to address the growing ecological restoration needs of the Hudson Valley,” said Avalon Bunge, PCA’s Ecological Projects Manager. “We’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity to support new communities of land stewards at both large and small scales, from working farms to residential gardens; and we’re excited to further protect the threatened and endangered pollinators native to our region.”
Over the two-year grant cycle, PCA will engage in on-the-ground habitat design and installation; create printed resources; and lead public education opportunities, including the following main activites:
Farm Pollinator Habitat: PCA will select five agricultural partners to install demonstration pollinator habitats on working farmland. Each farm project will include free training days for farmers and volunteers covering farm site selection, pollinator habitat needs, farm-friendly native plants, site preparation, planting, management, and more.
Municipal Pollinator Gardens: PCA will select five municipal partners to install ten small but impactful native-plant gardens that support threatened Hudson Valley pollinators. Projects will take place at highly visible community hubs to maximize public engagement and education opportunities.. The small garden designs, adapted to a range of site conditions, will be easily replicable and customizable and will be available to download for free on the PollinateHV website.
Education Elements: PCA will collaborate with each project site to offer public educational opportunities, including site tours, volunteer workdays, and workshops on supporting at-risk pollinators. Partner organizations will also receive training to continue educational outreach when the grant period is complete.
This grant was made possible through the New York Community Trust, the Office of the New York State Attorney General, and the New York Pollinator Conservation Fund.
