Morning Coffee: A Look at Climate Across the Hudson Valley

Last summer, the Hudson River experienced its largest harmful algae bloom in decades, yet another indicator of how our region continues to be impacted by climate change. One thing is certain amidst our evolving reality: understanding how our climate is shifting is paramount to adapting to its challenges. In this session, climate scientist Anton Seimon will talk about the realities of that shift across our region, while also discussing some of the past historic weather events experienced by the Hudson Valley, including blizzards, windstorms, heat and cold waves, and other severe storms. As our seasonal and climate rhythms continue to transform, Anton offers his perspective on the types of severe weather we can expect in the near and distant future, and the likelihood of their occurrence.

Join us December 9th,, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., for this exciting presentation. PCA's Matt Stinchcomb moderates.

About our speaker

A National Geographic Explorer, Anton Seimon leads research programs on a diverse range of themes in the Earth, atmospheric and environmental sciences. He holds adjunct faculty positions at Appalachian State University, the University of Maine and Bard College. With National Geographic Society funding, Seimon led a research program to catalog biodiversity in the high Andean watershed of Lake Sibinacocha in southern Peru at elevations up to 5,500 meters; this work included installing the first Global Observation Research Initiative in Alpine Environments site in South America. He currently works with conservationists to plan for climate change in tropical Africa using Earth system model supercomputer simulations.
